When I was growing up and my dad would introduce me to others, he’d often say, “My son is one in a million. With those odds, how’d I ever get stuck with him?”
We all knew he was jesting – I think/hope. No, I’m quite sure he was yanking my proverbial chain as he validated his true feelings of love and pride for me in a myriad of ways. But if we processed this statement, we’d soon realize that very few people are truly 1 in a million. Most everyone blends in with the rest of humanity, such that typically, nothing sticks out to signal this person as truly unique. But who wouldn’t want to be numbered as that 1 in a million?
