The co-founder of the Methodist Church (along with his brother) and one of the greatest evangelists of the 18th century, both in England and America, John Wesley, once offered this logical progression of thought regarding the Bible:

“This Book had to be written by one of three people: good men, bad men or God. It couldn’t have been written by good men because they said it was inspired by the revelation of God. Good men don’t lie and deceive. It couldn’t have been written by bad men because bad men would not write something that would condemn themselves. It leaves only one conclusion. It was given by divine inspiration of God.”

Good men aren’t good if they lie. Bad men won’t make themselves look bad. Conversely, a Good God will tell the truth without having to worry about condemning Himself. Therefore, what we have with our Bible is God’s Self-claim that He wrote it. Now if He didn’t, then He’s both a liar and a deceiver, but most damaging, He just condemned His Self-claim to even be God.

Why not carve out the time this Sunday morning to join us as we probe the question, “How did God ‘write’ the Bible?”
