The earthquake riddled nation of Nepal recently learned what real needs are: today’s food and tonight’s shelter. Thousands stand in line for hours to receive their daily bread and huddle together under makeshift tents now going on 6 weeks. Meantime, far too many in our superabundantly-blessed country murmur, “Our needs aren’t being met”; which being translated means, “I want more.”

Whether we’re talking about more physical wants, like a larger bank account, a bigger house, fancier trinkets, or more psychological wants, like the wife who lamented to her marriage counselor, “At first I wanted a Good Deal. What I got was an Ordeal. Now want I want a New Deal.”

It seems to be the exception when we notice those who are perfectly satisfied with what they have. The problem appears to have spilled over onto church people. It’s a good thing we can choose from a smorgasbord of churches so that when “Our wants are no longer being met”, we can hopscotch over to the next church – until it runs out of steam in meeting our wants. Notice I didn’t say needs!

Come this Sunday to learn about how God meets, not our wants – but our real needs, and primarily the means He uses to accomplish such.
