I’ve always been fascinated by a particular sculpture that sits – literally sits – along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia. Auguste Rodin fashioned “The Thinker” in order to conjure up images of deep philosophical or reflective thought. Originally it was a piece designed to represent the very pensive Dante Alighieri as he contemplated writing his “Divine Comedy”.
There he was, sitting outside “The Gates of Hell”. But I wonder, what was he pondering? “How awful is it on the other side?” “How many friends have already gone through these gates?” Perhaps he even contemplated this most sobering question, “How does one ensure that he doesn’t go through them himself?”
The Bible tells us this: “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Given this correlation between our thoughts and our actions, come this Sunday to hear more on this matter.
