Around our church, I’ve been beating this dead horse monotonously and incessantly, but always with good intention. The scenario goes something like this. I’ll ask someone, “How ya’ doin’?” Most naturally respond, “I’m good.” That’s when I counter with, “No you’re not! That’s not what the Bible says.” All I was doing on each occasion was echoing what it records that Jesus once declared, “There’s no one good but God.”
I stand corrected, for context is everything. When it comes to earning salvation, then yes, what I had echoed from Jesus is unalterably true. No one can compile any number of good works to merit God’s Favor.
Would you like to see in what context we are good? Then you’ll need to join us this Sunday morning to hear the sermon entitled, “We’re Good!”
