Sermon Synopsis for Sunday, August 2nd: “As a Man Is, So Thinks He”

There’s this one Proverb that gives perfect clarity to why we do what we do: Proverbs 23:7 reads, “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” We act upon what we think about. Most of our actions, except those totally driven by impulse, are born in our minds. We mentally dwell on something, and in time, we do it.

The portion of Scripture into which we’ll be “digging deeper” this coming Sunday morning repeats this, but in reverse, that “as a man is, so thinks he.” The Apostle Paul is essentially reiterating King Solomon’s pithy saying, but with a different emphasis. In Proverbs, the focus is on the origin of our actions, where they all start: in our minds. In Romans, however, the focus is on the outcome, where our minds inevitably take us: our actions.

Why not join us this Sunday to learn more about how our conduct betrays our contemplation’s in the sermon I’ve entitled, “As a Man Is, So Thinks He”?
