A handful of Jesus’ most devoted female followers arrived at His tomb bearing death deodorants, only to discover the stone had been rolled away. A pair of angels gave this enigmatic explanation, “He is not here; He has risen!” Thoroughly confounded by this announcement, they ran back to His disciples’ hiding place where they recounted the morning’s events. Peter and John didn’t wait to hear Pauline Harvey’s “The Rest of Story”. They shot out the door and sprinted to the tomb, only to find it empty, save for the undisturbed shroud. Peter dissolved into an emotional wreck, but John beamed from his “Aha” moment. Then after they had dispersed, the stage was set for the most memorable encounter of the morn, Jesus appearing to Mary Magdalene.
Churches recount this half of the Easter story year after year. But it’s the other half of the Easter story that’s rarely heralded. For Easter Sunday is not just about that initial and ne’er-to-be-repeated miracle resurrection that happened way back then. It’s also about the ongoing moment-by-moment resurrection power we can – and should – experience every single day.
Come this Easter Sunday morning to learn more about this subject that is both intensely personal and highly motivational.
