The Greek name, Jesus, derived from the Hebrew name, Joshua, which means “Jehovah is Savior.” It wasn’t an uncommon name among the Jews of the 1st century Middle Eastern world. But what set Jesus apart from all the others who shared His Namesake back then was this: He was Who His Name declared Him to be – He was the Savior sent by Jehovah. In fact, He Himself was Jehovah.
Last Sunday we launched our 2019 Christmas sermon series. For the month of December, we are peering into four Biblical passages we don’t typically associate with the Christmas story; but they sure are indisputably incarnation passages, directly linked to Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem. Each one of these passages focuses on a different purpose for His earthly visit.
Why not come out this Sunday morning to hear the sermon, “Jesus Came to Save,” as it heralds how He lived up to His Name?
