Times have changed – because people change. This does not mean, however, that history, which has already happened, should be changed to promote different people’s agenda.
When it comes to our own nation’s history, the educational drift is no more apparent than in the public school system’s revisionist presentation of the First Thanksgiving. I illustrate: Back in 1913, the history textbook used in all Texas public schools devoted three-plus pages to the story of the Pilgrims – including such notable commentary as this: “They preferred even hardships that bereft them of friends for a time to the restraints denied them of their liberties.”
Now fast forward a century to 2014 and the AP’s 1000+ page history textbook used in many public high schools across our land entitled, “America’s History.” It shaved its commentary of the Pilgrims story down to two paragraphs.
So why not attend this Wednesday evening as we retrieve the missing two-plus pages of history, and then some, to retell the fuller account?
