Sermon Synopsis for Sunday August 12: “From Prophecy to Prayer”

Back in the late 1960’s and early 70’s, during my very impressionable years, evangelicalism was obsessed with the subject of the end times. Books like Hal Lindsey’s, “The Late, Great Planet Earth,” launched an entire genre of books that flew off the bookshelves. The New York Times called Lindsey’s book, the “#1 non-fiction bestseller of the decade.”

Now my purpose is neither to promote nor disparage this class of prophetic books, as there are many good ones that help illuminate what is yet going to happen down history’s road. Some others, however, are more pathetic than prophetic, dogmatizing matters of interpretive conjecture.

But I do have purpose in bringing up the subject of prophetic literature this coming Sunday: to drive us to do exactly what God most intends for us to do when we become convinced of His future Plan. Why not come out this Sunday to discover just what this is?
