Sermon Synopsis for 1/8/17: “Who’s the Wise Guy?

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

I know you’ve seen them, those “You’re kidding me, right?”, warning labels on a whole host of products being sold today. I get it that we live in a litigious culture; but if we’re not careful, we’re going to start seeing lawsuits for “Defamation of Intelligence.” I offer here a sampling of what I hope you deem pretty obvious apart from each one’s warning:

1)(Name brand) Iron: “Do not iron clothes on body” – unless of course, you’re really pressed for time.
2) Blowtorch: “Not to be used for drying hair;” – unless you prefer the color, all-burn;
3) Chainsaw: “Do not hold on the wrong end.” Seriously??

Maybe, just a tad common sense would preclude the need for such ludicrous warning labels.

If there’s ever been a day when the culture cries out for common sense, it’s today! For the next several months, we’re going to offer some instruction in what I call uncommon sense, beyond-the-norm sense. The Bible calls this, “Wisdom”. We’re going to study several subjects that demand wisdom in order to enjoy a successful life; topics like healthy relationships, discipline in parenting, a good work ethic, appropriate conversation, Godliness. These are all found in the Book of Wisdom – a.k.a., The Proverbs.

Why not come out this Sunday and hop aboard this study from Week 1 as we begin our series at the beginning?, discovering what the Bible means by wisdom.

January 2017 memory verse
PROVERBS 4:8
“If you prize wisdom,
  she will make you great.
 Embrace her, and she will honor you.”
Each  month, there will be a Bible passage that all of FFF will memorize. In Pastor Bob’s sermons and the children’s church lessons, we will discover the meaning and application of the scripture to commit to memory. By the end of 2017, all of us will know the same dozen verses
(and in only 4 years we’ll know almost 50!)
