Here’s for 7/17 for the sermon: “Honor Dad and Mom”

If I had only known, I could be a rich man today. “How so?” Because I could’ve done what another redheaded boy is currently doing. Now just so you make the connection, I was born a redhead and remained such until time that the salt took over the red pepper. And I too, experienced a lot of abuse, teasing and name-calling, the brunt of many a disparaging taunt. My future fortune will be understood once you read this article entitled, “Red-haired Teen Sues His Parents for Being Born ‘Ginger.'”

“13-year old Liam Murphy filed a ‘Wrongful Life’ lawsuit against his red-haired parents, alleging that they knew their children would very likely inherit this undesirable trait. He claims that they caused him a ‘voluntary prejudice’ by giving life to him, knowing that he would be born into a life of pain and suffering. He is demanding the incredible amount of $1.35 million in ‘pain and suffering’, monetary compensation for the entire experience of having a disabled life versus having a healthy mind and body, as well as $800,000 in ‘loss of enjoyment of life.'” (I told you I could be rich!!!”)

The boy’s press release added:

“My life is a torture! I keep being told that I have no soul or that I am from an endangered species. People keep calling me Carrot-top, Strawberry Shortcake or Ginger Freak, and all of that is my parents’ fault! They knew they were offering me a life of misery, and they selfishly decided to have children anyways.”

Murphy’s lawyer, James Franklin O’Connor, told reporters that his client’s claim is “incredibly conservative considering the situation … My client was intentionally exposed to a life of rejection and bullying by his parents.”

He went on to state he believed his client could’ve demanded “at least 3 times” more, but the teenager wanted to “go easy” on his parents.

Now just in case you’re wondering how Liam’s parents are handling this situation, well, you can surmise, pretty narrow-mindedly. Dad, who obviously lives on another planet, was quoted:

“Both my wife and I have red hair, and it never stopped us from being happy… God has created me the way I am and I not ashamed of His creation. Some mean kids at school started bullying Liam over the last few years, and we tried to help him solve the problem… And seriously, I’m an electrician and my wife is a hairdresser… Where does Liam expect us to find $2 million?”

The rest of this story is yet to be written, but not what it introduces. Why not visit us this Sunday to learn what the Bible teaches in that 5th Great Old Testament Commandment, “Honor your dad and mom.”
