Jesus said the greatest commandment is to “LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” and we do, right? How can we not? When we meditate on it, we can become overwhelmed by the height, the depth, and the perfection of His consuming love for us. We are now in this love relationship with God because love and grace through faith have accomplished what the law and our efforts could not.
If God loves us and we love Him, why does God’s Word still encourage us to fear Him as well?
Is the fear of God just an Old Testament thing? Is fear still necessary in this age of grace?
We will be looking at the “Love of God” and the “Fear of God”. How one does not cancel out the other but they are held in tension or balance with one another for our benefit and our good.
There are seasons in our lives when OUR remembrance of God’s love may fall short. In these times it is our fear of God that could keep us from making choices that could bring consequences that would destroy us.
God loves us, His love never fails. We are the ones who forget,.are we are the ones who are weak.
Because God loves us He will correct, expose, and even discipline his children.
There are times that the fear of God will hold us fast when our love of God is not enough.
