Sermon Synopsis for Sunday, August 25th: “Four Objections”

I have preached more than 1200 sermons over the course of my pastoral career. I have taught who knows how many Sunday School classes and Bible studies? I have counseled scores of people using the Bible as my primary therapeutic resource.

Now I would like to think that everyone who has ever sat under any of my theological venues has understood what I had just imparted to them, but reality dictates otherwise. Sometimes, I’m misunderstood. People have left the sanctuary, or a Sunday School classroom, or a home Bible Study, or my office, scratching their head. The look on their face betrays their silent confusion of, “What in the world did he just say?”

As carefully as I can, I strive to bring clarity to every sermon I preach, every Bible study I teach, and every counselee I seek to reach; but sometimes, I leave people wallowing in a comprehension quagmire. Now there is no doubt that the fault lay on both ends of the communication spectrum, from me as the speaker, to them as the listener. But, I am immensely encouraged by this: people even misunderstood the Apostle Paul!

Why not come out this Sunday morning to see what caused our first century Christian predecessors to be confounded by some of what he had written?
