What do the couplets of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, Al Capone and Bugs Moran, and the Hatfield’s and the McCoy’s all share in common? They’re bitter enemies, with a whole lot of blood staining their landscapes.

What’s an enemy? According to your basic dictionary definition, it’s more than a simple dislike. Sure, we could all name a few people we dislike; but an enemy “is a person or group who feels hatred towards, and fosters harmful designs against, and may even engage in hostile activities to oppose another person or group.”

Given this definition, I suspect most people already presume that God views no one as His enemy; because He is Love Personified and teems with Mercy and Grace. Why then do the Scriptures record in several places this Divine indictment, “I am your enemy?” More importantly, to whom is God making this indictment? Why not come this Sunday to hear His answer?
