Sermon Synopsis Sunday May 28: “Make America Great Again”

A hat can’t do it. “Do what?” Fix the problem. “What problem?” The problem the hat declares it can fix. My friends, not even any mind under the hat can fix the problem. “OK, so what problem?” The one that’s implied by the slogan, “Make America Great Again”. We all know that no one person, or even an entire political party, can fix America’s problem – make that problems, plural.

Now this is not to say that this slogan on the hat fails at being a noble enterprise. It is! though somewhat skewed. America is great and has always been great! But when the then-GOP candidate Donald Trump branded his slogan, appealing to the populace’s desire for more and better jobs, a tighter border security and healthier international trade, among many other geopolitical issues, we all grasped the intention of his hat.

But if we really wish to see America made great again, maybe we need to ask the more appropriate question, “Was it ever great, at least in the One estimation that really matters?” Wise King Solomon captured God’s viewpoint on this matter when he scripted this in the opening phrase of Proverbs 14:34: “Godliness makes a nation great.”

Why not come out this Sunday as we probe what God scripted on His Hat for making our nation great?
