There aren’t too many front page spreads we all remember, but there are some. For those of us old enough, we vividly recall JFK’s Assassination. For most of us, how will we ever forget the bombing of the World Trade Towers? Many of us can picture the tragic explosion of the Space Shuttle, Challenger. Maybe some of us can even see in our minds eye a reprint of the NY Times Aug.15, 1945 headline: “Japan Surrenders: End of War!”
I suspect none of us, however, remembers the headliner on January 23rd, 1973, actually the day after this event. Newspapers all across America reported: “Lyndon Johnson, 36th President, is Dead.” But right under this top headliner, a second article appeared of far more devastating consequence – and it had nothing to do with the early embers of the Watergate conflagration. The headline read: “High Court Rules Abortion Legal 1st Three Months.”
This coming Sunday marks the 44th anniversary of this infamous decision. Since its passing, the number of our innocent fellow citizens who have never shared even one breath of life nears the 60 million mark. Please come this Sunday as we revisit this subject from a Biblical perspective.
