We\u2019ve all heard and probably wrestled with the question, \u201cWhy do bad things happen to good people?\u201d I\u2019m going to slightly modify this question to better reflect reality:\u00a0\u201cWhy do bad things happen to all people?\u201d\u00a0<\/i>Nobody lives their entire lifetime without periodic episodes of bad things blindsiding us at the most unwelcome times.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I guess you\u2019ve noticed that we don\u2019t battle with this question when things are running smoothly in our lives. It\u2019s when life unravels that we wage this inner war. We get fired from our job. Our house burns to the ground. Our spouse cheats on us. Our baby is born with multiple defects. Our cancer comes back after 5 years of being clean. We cry out,\u00a0\u201cWhy me, Lord?\u201d<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

Of course, it\u2019s this subject that skeptics and atheists pounce on to level their harshest criticism at Christianity. They couch their accusation against our Faith with this seemingly plausible objection:\u00a0\u201cIf God is a Good and All-powerful God, then why does He allow evil to even exist? Either He\u2019s willing but not able to withhold it<\/i>\u00a0(meaning He\u2019s not Omnipotent), or He\u2019s able but not willing to stop it\u00a0<\/i>(meaning He could care less because He\u2019s not truly good).\u201d\u00a0<\/i>They conclude either way that a god like this is not worth serving. I\u2019d counter with, a god like this isn\u2019t God at all.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
