An unnamed pastor had been preaching a sermon series on the importance of daily Bible reading. In the midst of this series, a couple from his church invited him and his wife over for an evening of dinner and fellowship. Shortly after their arrival, the wives slipped off to the kitchen to chat and put the final touches on the meal.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Now the pastor\u2019s wife wasn\u2019t being at all nosy when she did what most of us do in similar circumstances \u2013 she looked around the room out of curiosity. Her eyes lit upon the family calendar. There scripted on this date was this telling scribble: \u201cPastor coming for dinner: dust the Bibles.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now just so you know, if you invite Mari and me over for dinner, we wear white gloves.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m quite sure we all know what a hypocrite is \u2013 it\u2019s what other Christians are! Not exactly – but it’s close to what the familiar adage says it is: not practicing what we profess \u2013 like this couple who prominently displayed their Bibles, but just didn\u2019t read them.<\/p>\n
