When I open my email inbox first thing in the morning, I\u2019m greeted with a random Bible verse. I can\u2019t tell you how routinely one day\u2019s verse imparts the very word of encouragement I need for that particular day. In addition to this, I receive an\u00a0\u201cinspirational\u201d<\/i>\u00a0quote from some notable person that may or may not be religious in nature; though it\u2019s intended to kick-start my day on an uplifting note.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Just this past week, two inspirational quotes surfaced, both of which failed to do what they are purposed to do \u2013 they didn\u2019t inspire me at all; in fact, they exasperated me. The first came from the late, great actress, Audrey Hepburn, who echoed what we habitually hear:\u00a0\u201cThe most important thing is to enjoy your life \u2013 to be happy \u2013 it\u2019s all that matters.\u201d\u00a0<\/i>I strongly suspect she holds a different view now.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The second quote certainly reflects a much deeper level of insight into matters more pressing because of the implied recognition that we all share a common \"\"<\/a>problem; a problem that requires no small measure of fixing. The fifth century (give or take a century) monk and sage, Gautama Buddha, frequently posited this:\u00a0\u201cNo one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may.\u201d\u00a0<\/i>For his sake, one can only hope he\u2019s right (though I don\u2019t believe he is) because it\u2019s a tad too late for a do-over.<\/p>\n

The Bible lays out a philosophy to life that runs antithetical to both of these quotes. It would counter Ms. Hepburn\u2019s outlook with something like,\u00a0\u201cThe most important thing is to enjoy God \u2013 to be Right in His Sight \u2013 this is what ultimately matters.\u201d\u00a0<\/i>Then in contradiction to the claim of Buddha, the Bible teaches:\u00a0\u201cNo one can save us but God Alone. No one other than Jesus, and He will, if we let Him.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Why not attend this Sunday morning as we expand upon these two sobering contemplation’s, that greater than happiness is Righteousness, and that salvation is all about God\u2019s doing, never ours?<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
