Sometimes \u2013 perhaps way too often \u2013 our prayers revolve all around \u201cme!\u201d<\/em> I need this; I want that. Now many of these needs and wants are perfectly legit \u2013 sometimes, even Divinely-noble; but are they of the more eternal perspective? I suspect most of our prayers zero in on the more temporal concerns of life. Not that anything temporal is innately wrong, but is it Best, when it comes to prayer?<\/p>\n

\u201cLord, I need more hours in the day to get everything done I need to get done.\u201d \u201cLord, I want that job promotion \u2013 because I\u2019m the most deserving.\u201d \u201cLord, I need a new sump pump.\u201d \u201cLord, I want that new I-Phone.\u201d \u201cLord, I need that biopsy to come back clean.\u201d \u201cLord, I want everybody to like me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

No, these prayers aren\u2019t inherently wrong \u2013 it\u2019s just that they\u2019re not the Best!<\/p>\n

We derive this because when we peruse the Apostle Paul\u2019s 12 letters, the guy who routinely solicited his fellow-believers\u2019 prayers, we never read him asking for healing, despite his near-blindness. We never read him asking for a better work schedule, despite he held down two full-time jobs simultaneously. We never read him asking for others to pray that God remove his \u201cthorn in the flesh,\u201d<\/em> despite how debilitating it seemed to be.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Instead, when we read all of Paul\u2019s letters and note what did inspire him to pray, we grasp that his motivations stood out like Mt. Teide in Tenerife, whose peak can be seen from anywhere on the island. Paul\u2019s reasons for prayer can\u2019t be missed.<\/p>\n

Why not come out this Sunday morning when we \u201cdig even deeper\u201d<\/em> into God\u2019s Word to discover why Paul prayed so fervently in the sermon I\u2019ve entitled, \u201cPaul\u2019s Passionate Plan?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
