Some us can’t wait for Jesus to come back. The world’s in a mess, the country’s as divided as in the days prior to our Civil War, and individually, we’ve got all sorts of hurtful problems, from unemployment to family breakups; from terminal illnesses to friend betrayals, and church splits. The list goes on and on. Many of us cry out, “Maranatha (Come quickly), Lord Jesus!”<\/p>\n
Very few of us enjoy confrontation; even fewer find delight in pain. So we all want out! Jesus Christ’s “2nd Coming” to earth is the one trump card Christians clutch tight as it’s our ticket out of here. We even argue justification, running to the support of the Lord’s Prayer, and in particular, that phrase that invites us to pray, “Your Kingdom Come:” “Please Jesus, get back here and establish Your Kingdom on earth where Christlike righteousness, perfect justice and Utopian peace will pervade.”<\/p>\n
But is this the proper attitude to possess, an escapist mentality? Should we be so consumed by fear of the uncertain future that we’re divorced from living a present life of faith?
